Rod Parsley and his marriage amendment

Thu Aug 14, 2008 at 09:42:58 AM PDT

Rod Parsley has strong leadership abilities. People feel unity with him. They know him. They know him inside out. They seem to become one with him. In many cases there is nothing left of the personality of his adherents. He is considered  overwhelming by his followers. Therefore for many of them it is easy to betray his marriage partner because only the personality of Rod Parsley counts. Money to them is more important than love.

However Jesus said that: "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin..." A pastor who recommends a divorce to a married couple in his congregation for worldly success, "it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were drowned in the depth of the see." (Matthew 18,6)

How many ways is this disgusting?  Let me count the ways.  This clip is courtesy of diarist Lauren S at Daily Kos. Whatever you think of Sen. Clinton's comment on Friday, set that aside.  Here's Liz Trotta, a Fox News contributor, discussing the incident, first mixing up Osama and Obama, then offhandedly suggesting that "knocking off" both would be great "if we could". http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archive...

Trotta apologized for her comments on Fox News Monday morning:

I am so sorry about what happened yesterday. In a lame attempt at humor I really just fell all over myself in making it appear that I wished Barack Obama harm or any other candidate for that matter. I sincerely regret it and apologize to anybody I've offended. It's a very colorful political season and many of us are making mistakes and saying things we wish we hadn't said.

McCain's Thursday Night Preacher Massacre  Fresh off the defenestration of Rev. Hagee, now he's dumping Rev. Parsley, the right-wing preacher-power-broker of Ohio, who says -- inter alia -- that America was founded to destroy Islam. http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpoi...
But as David Corn points out, the Parsley story was broken two weeks ago by Brave New Films, which unearthed the video of Parsley's anti-Islamic rants, and Mother Jones, which distributed the story on its website. McCain obviously knew about Parsley's views after that, but he didn't care. He only cared when it showed up on network TV and became an embarrassment to him. So much for a different kind of politics.http://www.motherjones.com/washingto...

So, what are the McCains hiding? Cindy McCain was asked about releasing her tax returns, on the Today show, and reiterated that she would never release them -- ever -- even if she becomes First Lady:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vZi6...

We're All Hacks Atrios is right

It's important to remember that none of us are above the fray, that we all have hackish tendencies to suppress information which doesn't fit our worldview and privilege information that does. We're more likely to excuse behavior from people we like and exaggerate the ills of people we don't like. I try to fight hackish tendencies especially during this intra-Dem battle, but I don't claim to have superhuman Nonhack powers.

For the record, I make no effort to be above the fray nor any pretense of being fair or balanced.  I'm not only a member of the Hack Club for Men, I'm the president.  It's good to know your own filters....

Theocracy on the March:  "Patriot Pastors"

Sun Apr 13, 2008 at 09:22:04 AM PDT

Of course the long term pipe dream of America's conservative fundamentalist theocrats is to eventually march right into Washington DC and take command of the government... and your lives, but for now it looks like they'll settle for taking control of the Republican party of Ohio, with an eye on eventually seizing the governor's office.

Today Ohio. Tomorrow, who knows?

Maybe your town or state.

the occult hate theories of John McCain

Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 01:24:31 AM PDT

Rod Parsley, megachurch pastor, and spiritual adviser of
John McCain is wrong with his occult theories about Islam.
McCain and Parsley are leaning here exclusively to their
own understanding of the other side. The bible warns
against the occult hate theories: Matthew 22, 29+31+32:
"Jesus answered and said to them, You are mistaken, not
knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. ... But
concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read
what was spoken to you by God, saying, I am the God of
Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is
not the God of the dead, but  of the living."
