McCain's foreign policy

This man is simply too dangerous and unstable to be president. People need to wake up and get a look of the preview he's giving us of a McCain presidency.

Russia & Georgia, US & Hamas, Cheney & Musharraf A good, quick, smart read.

Not a fair trade  For what my home state, Wisconsin, has spent on the occupation of Iraq, we could have built more than 2.7 million homes with renewable electricity for one year.

Frederick Douglass

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."

EEOC issues New Guidelines on Religious Discrimination

From 'What If' to 'Here's How!'

Destination Home is a permanent supportive housing program built on philosophy of 'housing first'. Now that may sound too much like non-profit, sociology, insider speak, but it essentially means this - we believe that we can help solve the problem of homelessness for a number of people by giving them access to the dignity that comes with having the privacy that comes with a roof over their heads, and a key in their pocket.

Who's Responsible?

Sat Aug 02, 2008 at 10:06:00 PM PDT

Recession, high gas prices, out-of-control medical cost, crumbling infrastructure, over-crowded schools, run away national debt, is anybody ever responsible?

The Obama Senate record of accomplishments
Whatever one may think of his politics, to say that Obama is all show and no substance reveals either a painful ignorance or a shameful dishonesty.  Go to this link and take a look.  He's accomplished a heck of a lot -- he's tried to accomplish a heck of a lot more!  In a nutshell (packaged for the wingnuts):  Senator Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored 570 bills in the 109th and 110th Congress; Senator Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored 15 bills that have become LAW since he joined the Senate in 2005; and Senator Obama has   introduced amendments to 50 bills, of which 16 were adopted by the Senate.

War Funding

Thu May 15, 2008 at 11:34:11 AM PDT

The good Congressman puts the situation plainly.

This is the vote from January 16 on war funding.  Since that time, according to Democrats.com, these Congressmembers have said they will vote against further funding of the war (which they did not do on the earlier vote):

Is religion my way or the highway?

Sun Apr 27, 2008 at 02:34:09 PM PDT

Tim Graham flipped out over Nancy Pelosi "present(ing) herself as a 'devout Catholic,' but referring to him as 'His Holiness.' "How many gods does Pelosi worship?" Graham wrote. "Devout Catholics worship one God. Tibetan Buddhists worship a multiplicity of gods." Graham added that 'At best, Pelosi's promiscuous definitions of holiness just show she's more of a shallow politician than a devout Christian." Graham, however, ignored another politician who referred to the Dalai Lama as "His Holiness":  George W. Bush.

Beyond Graham's partisan aggression, the question this raises is:  Do we view our religions as exclusively correct?

The man who, in my life, has demonstrated the closest thing I've ever seen to the grace of God and the example of Christ -- my dad -- is now 77, having had a stroke, suffering a bad heart and fighting leukemia.  I'm taking some time off to go visit him.  We'll go fishing.  We'll drink coffee.  We'll talk.  We'll pray.  And we'll just be together.  I tell you this so you'll understand why you may not see me post again for a week or so.  In the meantime, be good to each other.
