Can I have a headache now? [Updated]

Mon Jan 14, 2008 at 11:54:07 AM PDT

When is the roll-out going to be for the new FAQ?  Does it include the suggestion that everybody start reading with the Coffee Hour(s), and/or Rabbi Brian?

I have gotten into the habit of reading every diary by someone that I don't recognize as having posted before.  I get a chance to offer a lot of newbies encouragement, and it's mostly been fun.

But this last week or so, ....

I can deal with confusion; I can deal with passionate arguments; I can deal with just about anything - God knows, having raised two kids, I've had to.

Could some of the newbies please slow down and breathe for a while?  We are not trying to shut anybody out here.  We are trying to understand where you are coming from and help you become part of the community.

However, obnoxious ≠ cute, and the occasional flash of sincerity doesn't quite balance out the notion that heavy-handed sarcasm is humor.

And nobody has been dissing anybody's mother - Queen Mum and Mrs. Pastor wouldn't stand for it.  Neither would pastordad or pastordan.

We are seriously trying to work out how to deal with many different kinds of serious problems from the perspective of sincere faith WITHOUT getting into either personalities or my-god-can-beat-up-your-god.  We have actually managed to accomplish some very good things in making that effort.

The best piece of advice I ever got came out of a fortune cookie:  You control the gravity on this planet.  Lighten up!

And I'm posting from work and have to get back to it now.

[Update]: I have a calendar in my office this year that has Celtic sayings and information on it (the other one is cats instead of frogs for once).

January on the Celtic calendar has this:

A Vow of Friendship
I honor your path.
I drink from your well.
I bring an unprotected heart to our meeting place.
I hold no cherished outcome.
I will not negotiate by withholding.
I am not subject to disappointment.

Admittedly, I first thought of my friend that I went through junior high and high school with; but this place ran him a VERY close second.

That third from the last is probably not something for the site as a whole, but for each individual present here in relation to each of the others, it might very well turn out to be the most important item on the list.
